Altuweijri - The Launch of the Privatization Program to Realize Vision 2030

Riyadh, April 2018: His Excellency, Mohammed Altuweijri, Chairman of the National Center for Privatization & PPP, announced the launch of the Privatization Program, one of the 12 realization programs for Vision 2030. The program is following the footsteps of past successful projects such as the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Madinah, the independent water and electricity production projects, and the Saudi Telecom Company.

Altuweijri noted that the program aims to enhance competitiveness, raise the quality of services, develop the economy, improve the business environment, and remove barriers that could limit the private sector's role in Saudi’s development. This program also aims to develop and activate privatization’s legislative system, develop deals with the private sector, protect the rights of all beneficiaries. He added that Privatization and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) enhances the targeted sectors, which are communication and information technology; education; energy, industry, and mineral resources; environment, water and agriculture; Haj and Umrah; health; housing; labor and social development; municipalities; and transportation.

The Chairman of the Board clarified that the Privatization Program has a solid and effective governance structure that created a base and the principles to achieve its goals. This is done through a specialized professional body that enables privatization, the National Center for Privatization & PPP (NCP). NCP also works to attract investors nationally and internationally to create added value to the services provided to the Saudi citizens and the targeted sectors. Privatization pushes to improve the services provided, decrease expenses, encourage the private sector to invest, and improve the country’s budget. This is in line with the Vision 2030’s plab to improve the private sector’s contribution from 40% to 65% and increase employment opportunities.
